Set right in the city center, walking distance from the Old Town’s major sites and a mere 15-minute ride from the airport, Hotel L’Ermitage is just as easily reached from the cruise port, train and bus stations. Guests need only cross the road to find themselves amid Tallinn’s celebrated medieval remnants, and the emerging, trendy neighborhood of Kalamaja is within a short walk’s reach. The hotel is well-connected to the rest of the city via public transport, too – the nearest stop is only steps away.
Services and Facilities
Reception operates around the clock, which makes check-in a breeze even in the wee hours of the night (check-in starts at 3pm and check-out is done before 12pm, but later check-out is available on request – free of charge for Loyal Customers, a status one is granted having stayed longer than just 1 night). Breakfast is served daily; those checking out before 7am can request a to-go breakfast pack. Parking is available, too.
There are two on-site restaurants (L’Ermitage and Katze), a lobby bar that serves great value cocktails, and considerable event facilities, complete with a modern conference hall. One of the hotel’s highlights is the Finnish sauna and Jacuzzi bath that can be booked at a moderate fee from 9am to 11pm daily; guests can also make use of an exclusive sauna menu.
The hotel’s 122 guest rooms – which come in Standard, Business, Superior and Suite varieties – all share a sleek minimalistic design inspired in a timeless Nordic elegance (simple but effective color combinations add a splash of life to the rooms).
Everything about the rooms is built to be cosy and functional, optimized for comfort and convenience, and the views of Hirvepark, Cathedral Hill or Kassisaba, one of the city’s oldest districts, are fantastic.
The breakfast buffet – which includes a good selection of warm and cold dishes, fresh pastries, juice, fruit and a thing or two to satisfy a morning sweet tooth – is served at L’Ermitage Restaurant, located on the ground floor. The restaurant also offers delicious business lunches on weekdays (12pm-3pm, menu updated weekly), and has an à la carte menu consisting of fine classical European dishes, helping to lead the way in Tallinn’s active, trendy and forward-thinking restaurant scene.
Getting its name from the nearby Kassisaba (‘Cat’s Tail’) district, Restaurant Katze offers simpler, but no less delicious, fare. Guests can enjoy a more laid-back and cozy atmosphere along with their hearty meal, quick snack or drink. L’Ermitage also boasts a sleek lobby bar, which is ideal for an evening drink or a quick business meeting (closes at midnight).
Why we love it:
Though we appreciate L’Ermitage’s convenient location, comfortable rooms, and sleek Nordic design elements, it’s the small personal touches that make this a great hotel.
The genuine smile on the faces of the staff, exceptional loyalty to returning guests, and special services like the Romance package all create a welcome feeling – one that, we are convinced, will have you wanting to extend your stay.
